Food that you CANNOT! find in Spain Review

In today's blog I am going to review sweets and a drink that I found very hard finding in Spain, however I like them a lot, and I think everyone should try them.

Mountain Dew

This is a famous American drink, that has a lot of sugar, probably more than coke, and it tastes like sprite, but with more sugar, and less gas, which I kind of like more, even though I myself can not drink large amounts of, because it is just too sugary. This drink is also famous because its company sponsors large gaming events across the world, as well as Doritos.

White Twix

The good old twix tastes just fine, however people get tired of the old common tastes, so.. they've invented a white twix with white chocolate. I prefer white chocolate over black chocolate, sometimes, and I really found this new invention great.

Snickers with sunflower seeds

Snickers is easy to find in Spain, in fact its almost everywhere, however you cannot find the wonderful snickers in which the peanuts were replaced with sunflower seeds, which more like the Russian style way of doing things. I tried this limited  edition snickers, and it kind of did tasted better than the usual one. I hope they put it into production forever.

Picnic

The picnic candy is very similar to snickers, however there is more nuts I believe, and it creates a larger variety of sweets you consume, because eating everything the same gets you boring. I really hope they bring that candy into Spain for production.

I have learned that having a bigger variety of candies in the shops makes the life more sweet, and tasty. Eventhough Spain has a big variety of candies, they do not have my favorite ones. In the future I will present everything i have learned during this year in a TED style of talk.

Food Pyramid Explained

Eating food is not only a pleasure, but it is also a science, knowing how much calories to consume, or which food not to overeat. In this blog post I will teach you how to correctly balance your diet using the food pyramid.

At first, the pyramid is designed for an average person, which means not for an anorexic, or overweight, in which cases the diets become absolutely different. The real problem about the food pyramid is that every person is different, and sometimes different people cannot consume milk, or even bread, so that's where the pyramid fails.

The way to use the pyramid is actually very simple, the more down a certain food is, the more you should consume it per day. The grains and soy should be around 50-60% of your daily meals. Sweets however should be consumed 1 time per day maximum. Eggs and dairy are best to consume at breakfast, or just before you go to sleep.

Breakfast is the most important meal of your day, therefore that's where you should get the most food eaten. I have noticed that a lot of Spanish people consume just a cafe with a sandwich for breakfast. In reality that is very bad, because after they will feel anxiety, and depression overtime. The breakfast makes your day, therefore all i can say to you is: "Eat Healthy"

I have learned that getting a good breakfast does not only make your day more happy and energetic, but also if you are trying to get muscles, a big breakfast is the best thing you can have. In the future I will put more information about food, and probably one or two food battles.

Molecular Gastronomy Explained

In recent times Molecular Gastronomy has became one of top trends in expensive cuisine. A lot of people don't know what is it, and how does it taste, and this blog will help you find everything you need to know about molecular food.

(In the photo above an example of Molecular Gastronomy)

What is it?

Molecular gastronomy focuses on physical and chemical transformations of ingredients that occur in cooking, like water (H2O) transforming into gas state from liquid, or as a normal chef would say "boiling". There is a lot of science behind the technology, and normal people without studying any of this "Food Science"  would not be able to produce any of the molecular ingredients.

The cuisine is very recent, and first it was introduced in 1988 in Oxford. To make the food you need to buy expensive equipment like super exact electrical weight, and other science things. Also the molecular food does not focus on how much you eat, but on which tastes you get, and the artistic composition of the plates you consume. (If you are hungry, go to McDonald's)

(In the photo below an example of molecular composition of a dish used in Molecular Gastronomy)

(Fake caviar, which tastes like it, but made out of different chemical components)

Conclusion

Even though I never tried Molecular Gastronomy, I have learned that Molecular food is not that easy to produce, however some people buy kits and do it at home. It is a very interesting topic, and in the future there will be much more restaurants offering it, however right now it is very hard to find, and if you do manage to do so, it is very expensive, as dishes go around 50$. In the future I will explain more different types of food, and explain it in this blog. For my self I learned that now I want to try this type of food, and say to all the people how it tastes like, because everyone argues about it, but nobody has tried it.

Sushi Rolls Explained

                                                                        すし, 寿司, 鮨
Sushi is a type of Japanese food consisting of vinegared rice. It is usually made with fish and vegetables, however there are a lot of variants.

Different Types
Raw fish (or sometimes meat) sliced and served without rice is called "sashimi".

The wrapping paper for rolls is called "Nori" Nori is a type of Algae.
"Maki" (which means roll) is rolled sushi usually wrapped in Nori

"Nigiri" is a slice of raw meat or fish mounted on top of vinegared rice

"Wasabi" is a green plant which when consumed is tasted very hot, and it is used to spice the things up, and change the taste when eating different types of sushi. It is not considered a sushi, but a sauce.

SUSHI REVIEW

I tried this set of different maki rolls, including my favorite one: the Philadelphia roll, which includes Philadelphia cheese, salmon, and cucumber. Other roll was a hot baked roll, which is really good, because usually the rolls are served cold and raw.

Conclusion

In the future I will try more different types of food of course, unless I want to starve to death, and I will post more blogs. I have learned that adding wasabi to say sauce is really nice, and it adds more taste to the sushi. I also learned a lot about the food I ate, and its really interesting, because usually people don't know background information about the stuff they consume.

Cakes Review

Napoleon vs. Cheesecake

I have tried two different cakes, and the two of them were delicious. One was a Napoleon, or also known as Mille-feuille, and the other one was a simple cheesecake. In this post I will describe you some history from both cakes, and decide which one is better...

Napoleon

Mille-fuille from french translates as "a thousand leaves", and traditionally it is made up from three layers of puff pastry, and two layers of pasty cream. The layers can sometimes be replaced with whipped cream or jam. The top part of the cake also can vary. The cake is called Napoleon in Russian because people liked eating eat after the defeat of Napoleon. Later the cake became standard in Soviet cuisine.
The version I tried had a nice strawberry on top, and some crispy chips and sugar on top. Personally Napoleon is one of my favorite desserts, and this one pleased me a lot. It was soft and fresh, and the concentration was good enough.

Cheesecake

In ancient form Cheesecake was popular in ancient Greece. The taste of cheesecake differs a lot assuming which cheese do you use to prepare it. There can be baked and fresh types of cheesecakes, in my case it was a fresh one. Lots of countries have their own variants of cheesecakes

The cheesecake I ate was good, but the cheese that was used was not one of my favorites. I have tried better cheesecakes however the sugar star on top was a nice detail, however it was super hard to bite.

Conclusion

Napoleon has an interesting background story, and cheesecake is more spread in the world.
Today the cheesecake have won. In the future there will be more battles of food. I hope you, such as me, have learned something interesting for yourself, and next time you go to a restaurant, you will have something to tell to your friends.

Flaming Cheese Potatoes

In this project I took 2 slowly baked potatoes, and after about 1 hour of soft cooking, when they were ready, I put some cheese into them, cutting a big hole in the middle, and stuffing them with cheese French style, like in fondue. The semetric aspect of 2 things of each, adds a sort of beautifulness to the food. Eventhough sausages are not something you would ecspect in a restaurant, but all together the plate looks very traditional, and home-made. I would reccomend this plate to everyone who likes potatoes, and everyone who likes fondue. I learned that expirimenting with food could give out different results, and it is super cool if you do it as well at your house. In the future I will post more interesting cooking ideas.

Blog Explained

In this blog I will critisize different types of food, and I will also sometimes create my own food, and say what inspired me to make it.
